NOVA SCOTIA

Day 74   August 8    New Gkasgow to Antigonish     110km.

Followed the Sun Rise Trail to Cape George. Stopped at Ballantyne Cove for lunch at Fish and Snips. It was a nice ride but not worth the extra 40km. on hilly roads with a stiff breeze. We passed a very impressive garden. Had a couple of small showers but nothing serious. Camped at Whidden Park campground. Walked along main street and had a beer outside. pizza again tonight.

Day 75   August 9   Antigonish to St. Peter's     105km.

Took highway 104 all the way to St. Peter's. The first 50km were quite hilly and busy but the shoulder was paved and fairly wide. Stopped at Aulds Cove and had a lobster lunch. Crossed the causway to Cape Breton. The causway was one lane in both directions with a nasty lip on the road edge which made it tough going. Stopped at the Tourist Info where we met another biker. He decided to go on the main highway 105 but we decided to stay on 104 which turned out to be the best choice. After the first hill which required the lowest granny gear, the rest of the journey was easy. We camped at Battery Provincial Park, a lovely spot overlooking St. Peter's Bay. There is a lock and canal here linking Bras D'or Lake  to the Atlantic.

Day 76   August 10    St. Peter's to North Sydney      104km.
Woke up this morning to rain. Packed very wet tent and set off. The man at the camp office told us the road was flat. We think there must have been an earthquake since he last saw it. We stopped for coffee after about 10km but couldn't stop long as the rain had temporairly stopped. The road was rough in places and there was a long stretch of rough roadworks. Sceanery was very nice, sea views. Peddled like crazy to reach ferry before the rain started again. Booked our tickets and went out for a lobster burger. Cold wet wait  for the ferry.
